Aphex Twin, drukqs 2 CDs, Warp One of the wonders of the modern world is that people can make art music and make good livings outside academia. Not all the world but certainly London, England. And drukqs certainly is art music - textures that sweep and change. Rythmns that come and go and thoughtful changes of dynamics. Just how engaging you'll find it will depend on what you bring to the table. Richard James hasn't helped us much as the materials surrounding the release are mostly fairly (completely! see the interview here somewhere off the BeatZ page) tongue in cheek. It's not as inaccessible as that sounds though. There are some pretty melodies and the general make-up of the thing doesn't require too much pre-education. This is especially true of the second disk. www.warprecords.com (thunderfinger)Back to reviews page
